July 16: Complex of Sultan Bayezid II Health Museum (Edirne) and a Picnic on the Bus

Before leaving Edirne, we checked out the Complex of Sultan Bayezid II Health Museum.  The complex, which was built between 1484 and 1488, included a mosque, a hospital that treated both physical and mental illnesses, a medical school, a bakery, and a soup kitchen (among other things).  Mosque complexes have traditionally  served multiple functions, and this is mosque is no exception.  The grounds of what is now a health museum are very well-maintained.

We didn't get to the Belgrade Forest for our picnic at the "leisure site" of the Sultan this afternoon, but that was just fine with our travel-weary group.  In and/or around Istanbul can be time-consuming due to traffic congestion, as well as unexpected road and bridge closures.
